World Card Making Day

World Card Making Day is October 6.  To celebrate, I invited stampers to comer over to my play room and work on their own cards.  They can bring their supplies and projects (SU! only) and work and there's no charge.  Or for those that don't have the time or materials to plan their own cards, I am offering kits for sale in 3 different simple designs.  Let me know if you want more details.

This is one of the kit choices:

CASEd from this card.  She used her Midnight Muse Marker and drew lines between the piercing holes (faux stitching).  It looks cool like that, too - I may give it a try later.  I was in a hurry to get the samples finished and sent out and I didn't want to chance messing up.
Stamp Sets:  Ornament Keepsakes, Greetings of the Season (both from the 2012 Holiday Catalog)
Card Stock:  Whisper White
Stamp Pad:  midnight muse
Other:  holiday ornaments framelits, big shot, dimensionals, whisper white 3/8" taffeta ribbon, glue dot, festive paper-piercing pack, stampin' pierce mat, paper-piercing tool.

Pleated Ribbon -- A Reason to Smile!

One of the ladies that attends my Card Buffets cleaned out her stamp room and gave me her leftover pleated ribbon from the Spring Occasions Mini Catalog.  All four colors!  Wasn't that nice?!  I saw this lovely card on Pinterest last night and CASEd it this morning to send to her.  Thank you, Carol!
I think this card looks pretty in the pictures, but you should see it in real life.  Very pretty!

Spooky Halloween Peepers

Isn't this card so ugly/cute, cool/weird?  Ha!  I'm really not too sure how to classify it, but I do kind of like it.
I ran my Tangerine Tango card stock through the Big Shot with the Spider Web Embossing Folder.  To get the black ink on the embossed spider's web, I figured I had 3 options (1) brayer ink in the embossing folder - I've done that before but not with black ink, (2) sponge over the embossed web with a stampin' sponge and black ink or (3) gently rub the stamp pad directly on the embossed card stock.  Here's the link to the original card, but it offered no suggestion.  I opted for the 3rd choice and it was not messy at all.

Stamp Sets:  Googly Ghouls, Wacky Wishes (both inside)
Card Stock:  basic black, whisper white, tangerine tango
Stamp Pads:  tangerine tango, black stazon, basic black
Other:  spider web ef, big shot, basic black 5/8" grosgrain ribbon (retired), large oval punch, small oval punch (retired), 1/2" circle punch, dimensionals.

Frightening Feline On the Fence

One of the first things that made my "I have to order that" list when I got my copy of the Holiday Catalog is this Frightening Feline single stamp.  I like all of my other Halloween stamps (especially Wicked Cool), but this is very different!
I saw this card by dostamping and thought it was cute.  I watched her video tutorial and was shocked, amazed and so happy to learn how simple the fence was to make.  Are you ready for this?!  It's made with the Rosettes die.  I never would have thought of that!  Instead of completely creasing each score line, gently fold it so you can sponge on the creases to show definition of the individual boards of the fence.  Genius!
The "moon" is a mask; post-it cut with the 2-1/2" circle punch.  The main panel is Glossy White Card Stock.  I can't remember the last time I used that.  I actually had to open a pack that had the old tiny sticker with just the item number; not the big sticker with a description and the SU! logo.  That goes waaaaay back!  The striped ribbon can be found in the current Holiday Catalog.  The googly eyes are so cute on this cat, too!  All-in-all, it was a very fun card to make!

Stamp Set:  Frightening Feline
Card Stock:  basic gray, basic black, white glossy
Stamp Pads:  black staz-on, basic black, daffodil delight, pumpkin pie, cajun craze
Other:  rosette die, big shot, googly eyes, sponges, striped ribbon, 2-1/2" circle punch.

There's a Mouse at the Buffet

Here are the final two cards that started on my card buffet in August and will finish up this month.
This cute little mouse card was funny.  I had no idea how people would like it.  My granddaughter was with me when I made the prototype and she loved it and talked me into including it.  I knew I was taking a chance, but why not?!  After all, there are 11 more cards to choose from.  At the first session, no one made one; no one even said a word about the card.   I figured it was a big fat dud.  At the next session, every one thought it was so cute and made several.  The same for the next two sessions.  I nearly ran out of packets and have cut more for this weekend.  Funny!
A couple of people wanted to use this for a child's birthday card.  I cut their age from a number die and they stuck in one of the large cheese holes.  That was cute.

CASEd from this card.

Stamp Set:  Just Believe
Card Stock:  basic black, whisper white, so saffron, basic gray, pink pirouette
Stamp Pad:  black stazon
Other:  just about all of my circle punches plus the word window, modern label, large oval and boho blossoms punches, basic black marker, dimensionals.

Bacon and Egg Treats

I did stamp a new card yesterday, but I didn't take its picture yet.  However, t I do have something else to show you.
I am the secretary for the Board of Elders at our church.  I usually bake cookies for their meetings.  Occasionally I will make a pie or cake, but not often.  Finger foods are much easier in conference rooms.  Last month, I made caramel puffcorn, which is always a hit.  The meeting tonight is later than usual (they tend to run long) and a few have to get up really early in the morning.  So, I thought I would treat them to breakfast.  Bacon and eggs to be precise.

Aren't these so cute?!  I just repinned them from my daughter on Pinterest yesterday.  They were super fast and easy to make.  After I refrigerated them, they lifted off of the wax paper very easily and all the parts stayed stuck together.
All you have to do is melt white chocolate; I did it in the microwave in the tray it came in, stick in a yellow m&m and 2 pieces of pretzel sticks.  Chill them for a few minutes.  Salty and sweet in one bite.  Yum!

Midnight Muse Ornament Keepsakes

I had not yet used my Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set or Holiday Ornament Framelits, so when I had a few minutes the other morning, I pulled them out.  I had remembered seeing this simple, yet elegant card on Pinterest so I whipped one up.  I liked it and had about 20 minutes to spare so I cranked out another 5 cards.  That quickly!  If you've been following along, you may know that I have finished my 2012 Christmas cards.  But it's always nice to have a few extras.  Or even a start for 2013.  And, in case you are wondering, the answer is:  No - I have not yet started this year's Halloween or Thanksgiving cards (except for the card buffets).  I kind of have the holiday cards out of order ☺

Don't forget - Stampin' Up! has packaged the stamp set and framelit set into bundles; saving you 15% when you order both at once.

Stamp Set:  Ornament Keepsakes, More Merry Messages (inside)
Card Stock:  midnight muse, whisper white
Stamp Pad:  midnight muse
Other:  holiday ornaments framelits, big shot, dimensionals, 3/8" whisper white taffeta ribbon, glue dot, holiday frame ef, vanilla shimmer smooch spritz.

Saturday, September 8, 2012

My favorite pattern is probably polka-dots.  Chevron is coming on strong and I love bright colors with lots of white space.  That's a big change from the "country" of the 80s and 90s.  With that being said, I must admit, that I still have a fondness for some gingham prints.  And even though, I think Stampin' Up!'s Perfectly Preserved Stamp Set is country, I still think it's pretty cute, especially when paired with the gingham prints from Orchard Harvest Designer Paper.
So when I saw this adorable card by Debra Currier, I "oohed and ahhed" until I made my own.  The only things I changed were to leave off the sentiment (I'm stocked on thank you cards) and replace the Raspberry Ripple strip of card stock with ribbon.  I used some of the free "Back to Spool" ribbon (see here for details).

Stamp Set:  Perfectly Preserved
Card Stock:  crumb cake, island indigo, whisper white, more mustard, early espresso, orchard harvest dsp
Stamp Pads:  early espresso, island indigo, raspberry ripple, gumball green
Other:  cannery framelits, big shot, raspberry ripple 3/8" stitched satin ribbon, dimensionals, glue dot, boho blossoms punch, itty bitty shapes pack punch, itty bitty buttons, early espresso baker's twine.
