January 2012 Christmas Card Challenge

I made several different Christmas cards during the fall and Christmas season last year. But when it came down to making enough to mail to family and friends, I was pushing it to the very last minute to get enough finished. Even though I love card making, pressure took some of the fun out of it. So I challenged myself to make 12 Christmas cards (and 10 tags) each month; January through October 2012. To help me stick to this challenge, I invited my Stampin' Up! email list to join me. Kind of like accountability partners.  It wasn't a class or traditional workshop; everyone had to bring their own projects and supplies.
This past Friday morning was our first session. Thank you Jane and Kristy for coming over!  I really enjoyed the morning and it was also productive. Kristy made 10 super cute Christmas Cards with her Stitched Stocking goodies. Jane used Stampin' Up! supplies to prepare beautiful, vintage Valentines  for sending.
One of the cards I made during the holidays, I prepared to make 8 more but didn't finish them. I did Friday.  Another, I had made one of, loved it, but didn't get around to making more.  I made 12 more.  I had found 11 extra punch art Santas when cleaning out baskets recently.  I turned them into gift tags.  I now have a total of 22 Christmas cards and 11 tags for 2012.  And it feels good!

P.S.  I did not get all of this finished in the 2 hour session.  I did have to stay after class and finish - partially because I talk too much.  When my mom reads this, she will say some things never change.  ☺

Easy Events Birthday

I kind of hate to admit this, but I needed some belated birthday cards.  Yeah - I know.  Pretty lame for a card maker like myself to not get cards mailed.  January just snuck up on me too quickly.  It was right on the heels of Christmas this year.  ☺

Fortunately, SU is prepared for such occasions and included a really cute stamp in the new Easy Events stamp set and a fitting sentiment in the On Your Birthday Stamp Set.  So with the help of Chic'n Scratch, I made this:

And in case, I goof up again, I am prepared.  Or maybe I should plan to send a few late, just for an excuse to send these cute cards.

Stamp Set:  Easy Events
Card Stock:  pool party, lucky limeade, whisper white, 2011-2013 in color designer stack
Stamp Pads:  blaxk stazon, pool party, lucky limeade

Final Card from January Buffet

Here are the last two cards that rotated off of the menu board in January.  I've had quite a bit going on and haven't finished cleaning up from the buffet yet.  I did get some of the leftovers finished this morning and got to hang out with a friend.  Hopefully this afternoon I can finish up the leftovers and move on to some new cards!

I have several packets leftover from this card.  I think I might add a birthday greeting and use some for the choir masculine birthday cards.  I printed this card idea out before I began saving links.

Card Stock:  chocolate chip, soft suede, always artichoke, naturals white, crumb cake
Stamp Pads:  always artichoke, crumb cake
Other:  chocolate chip marker, stampin sponge, chocolate chip 1/4" grosgrain ribbon, dimensionals.

This card was VERY popular at the buffets!  This card was the inspiration, but I couldn't warm up to the colors; I switched them and now love the card.

Valentine Card Buffet Projects

Everyone at the December and January Card Buffets had the opportunity to make as many of these two cards as they wanted.  The first is more of a traditional Valentine's Day card.  I think the second card is also great for an anniversary card.

Inspired by this card.

Card Stock:  whisper white, real red, pretty in pink
Stamp Pad:  real red
Other:  heart to heart punch, rhinestone, perfect polka-dots ef, stripes ef, big shot, whisper white organdy ribbon, dimensionals.

CASEd from this card.

Winter Card Buffet Cards

This past Friday (x2), Saturday and Monday were my January Card Buffet days.  Here are two of the wintry cards that rotated off the menu this month:

Some people made this first card for a Christmas card and some for an all-occasion winter card.  There's no stamping that you can see - I did use the mitten stamp from Jolly Bingo Bits to embellish the inside and the envelope.  The mittens were made with the large and xl oval punches; the white band was hand cut to size.  I blended several different ideas I had seen to design this card.

Card Stock:  crumb cake, whisper white, real red
Other:  snow burst ef, square lattice ef, big shot, large and xl oval punches, dimensionals, silver brad, cherry cobbler baker's twine.

The snowbanks in this picture look kind of dirty, but they are actually very pretty and glistening.  CASEd from here.

Stamp Set:  Season of Friendship
Card Stock:  early espresso, baja breeze, whisper white
Stamp Pads:  early espresso, baja breeze, real red
Other:  two-way glue pen, dazzling diamonds glitter, dimensional.

Hello, Doily

Hello, Doily is a background stamp that is new to the 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog.  Background stamps are not always easy to use for a Card Buffet and I certainly don't need anymore (kind of feel like embossing folders have replaced them) so I had no intentions of ordering it.  But then I kept reading how nicely it heat embossed and seeing beautiful cards like this one on Card Scraps Blog.  And before I knew it, the stamp had made its way into one of my Stampin' Up! boxes. I'm glad it did, too.  Look what I made:

Colors for the top card are Soft Suede and Very Vanilla.  The bottom card features Wisteria Wonder and Whisper White.  For each, I stamped the image with versamark ink and heat embossed with whisper white embossing powder.  I then sponged ink over the whole panel; the embossed areas resist the ink.  For the Soft Suede, I also used my Spritzer Tool and Soft Suede Marker.

Stamp Sets:  Hello Doily, Perfectly Penned (another stamp set I thought I would live without)
Card Stock:  soft suede, very vanilla, wisteria wonder, whisper white
Stamp Pads:  versamark, soft suede, wisteria wonder
Other:  soft suede marker, spritzer tool, stampin' sponges, whisper white embossing powder, heat gun, xl oval punch, lots of tags sizzlet, big shot, very vanilla satin ribbon, whisper white organza ribbon, dimensionals, glue dot, buttons, whisper white baker's twine.
