Love & Sympathy

Unfortunately, I am all out of sympathy cards.  And since I don't usually know when I will need one, I like to keep some in my stash.

Love & Sympathy is a new stamp set in the Idea Book & Catalog.   I wasn't too sure about it after I bought it and was having mild buyer's remorse.  Then I saw this beautiful card by Jenn Sannes and I no longer regretted my purchase.  :)

BTW, Jeff is in the process of closing up the pool so this is probably the last picture you will see it in the background for awhile.  :(

Stamp Set:  Love & Sympathy
Card Stock:  wisteria wonder, pear pizzazz, whisper white, berry blossoms dsp
Stamp Pad:  basic gray
Other:  pear pizzazz and wisteria wonder markers, flower fusion sizzlets, dotted scallop ribbon border punch, itty bitty shapes punch pack, whisper white 5/8" satin ribbon, dimensionals, pearls.

Whatever Wednesday - Triple Layer Punch Get Well

Ten Minute Tuesday - Day of Gratitude

Actually, this card took me 15 minutes to make and I'm really not too sure why.  It's quite simple.  Maybe my stamping room not being tidy has something to do with it.  Tonight is the last collage workshop - hopefully I will be able to restore order tomorrow.  ☺

Regardless of the time or state of my stamping room, I still really like this card.  I just don't think you can go wrong with the Spice Cake Designer Paper.

CASEd from here.

Card Stock:  soft suede, pool party, very vanilla, spice cake dsp
Stamp Pads:  soft suede, pool party

Trendy Trees & New Neighbors

Sorry this isn't a "Mini Monday" card.  I didn't use any products from the current Holiday Mini Catalog.  I will be gone most of the day today and not able to make something.  But I did make a card yesterday that I will share.

A new family moved in across the street from us this weekend.  I baked a cake for them yesterday, but we couldn't deliver it without a card.  So, here it is....

CASEd from Deb Currier's card on Splitcoast.

Card Stock:  very vanilla, early espresso, cajun craze
Stamp Pads:  early espresso, cajun craze, more mustard, old olive

Seasonal Saturday - Autumn & Halloween Collages

My workshops for Halloween and Fall collages are this weekend.  Everyone is so excited to make theirs - that makes it fun for me (and worth the many hours of prep time).

Last winter, we made Christmas and Family collages and I CASEd them from another demonstrator.  See this post.  I am very excited that I was able to create these new collages on my own.

The collages leave a lot of designer paper scraps, so to use some of them up, this workshop also includes 2 cards.  I CASEd the Autumn Card from a talented lady, Krista, here.  I used that same layout to create a Halloween card.

Stamp Set:  Jack of All Trades.  DSP:  Frightful Sight.  Both from the current Idea Book and Catalog.

Stamp Set:  Gently Falling, Fabulous Phrases.  DSP:  Spice Cake.  Gently Falling and Spice Cake can be found in the current Holiday Mini Catalog.  Fabulous Phrases is in the IB&C.

Flashback Friday - Birthday Bakery

With all of my workshops and personal stamping last year, I went through nearly 3 packs of Candy Cane Specialty Paper.  Two of the designs have glitter on them.  I would've loved to buy just those pieces!  I broke down and allowed myself to squeeze 2 cards out of my leftover scraps this morning.

Red and blue are not typical Christmas colors, but for some reason, this birthday card looks Christmasy to me.  Does it to you?  Maybe it's just because I know that the reverse side has a Christmas print.  I'll probably still hold onto these until December.

To color the cakes, I used a blender pen and picked up ink from the lids of the stamp pads.  The white areas of the cakes have dazzling diamonds glitter.

CASEd from mamamostamps on Splitcoast here.  I like  a lot of here stamps; particulary her CASd designs.

Stamp Set:  Birthday Bakery (retires hostess)
Card Stock:  baja breeze, real red, whisper white, candy cane specialty
Stamp Pads:  black stazon, real red, baja breeze, basic gray
Other:  scallop border punch, button, blender pen, glue pen, dazzling diamonds, whisper white baker's twine, blue dot.

Whatever Wednesday - Many Mustaches

When I first saw this Many Mustaches single stamp in the new Idea Book and Catalog, I thought it was silly.  Really - what can be done with it?!  I soon discovered that mustache decorations (and mustaches on a stick) are very trendy.  Where have I been?  But still - in a Stampin' Up! catalog??

As so often is the case, I started seeing some really cute things made with this stamp.  Before I knew it, I had it on order. :0)

I saw this card here - this stamper has a neat idea - she takes cards she sees in stamping magazines and remakes them using Stampin' Up! only products.

Stamp Sets:  Many Mustaches, Pennant Parade, Smarty Pants, Bring on the Cake
Card Stock:  tempting turquoise, real red, whisper white
Stamp Pads:  real red, black stazon, tempting turquoise
Other:  petite pennants builder punch, stocking builder punch, gold brads, mat pack, paper piercer, dimensionals.

Ten Minute Tuesday - Delicate Doilies

I love it when I can make a ten minute card and it doesn't look like a ten minute card!  Isn't this pretty?  I've used this new Delicate Doilies stamp set several times, but this card looks so different from the others thanks to this great color combination.  Excuse the smudge on the top right corner.  For some reason, early espresso doesn't dry as quickly as other classic inks.

Since I'm running a little late (ok, a lot late) this month AND this card is pretty quick to make, it will be my September Thank You card for qualifying orders.

Thanks to Robin for sharing her work of art here!  Check out her gallery on Splitcoast.

Stamp Sets:  Delicate Doilies, Curly Cute
Card Stock:  pear pizzazz, early espresso, whisper white.
Stamp Pads:  early espresso, crumb cake, pear pizzazz
Other:  early espresso 5/8" satin ribbon, decorative label punch.

Mini Monday - Gently Falling

I'm sorry I haven't blogged for so long.  As some of you know, last week was very challenging for my family.  Mom received her first chemo treatment and, as per usual lately, things didn't go quite as planned.  Thank you for your calls, texts, facebook messages, emails and especially your prayers!

When I did have time to stamp, I didn't have the gumption (My mom uses that expression - I've never looked it up to see if gumption is even a real word).  Anyway, I finally forced myself to clean up my stamp area Saturday and it actually felt good.  Can you believe it was untouched AND a mess for a whole week?!

Sticking with my schedule of using products from the mini catalog on Mondays, I chose the Gently Falling 2-step stamp set and Spice Cake designer paper from the current Holiday Mini Catalog.

CASEd from the amazing Tessa here.

Stamp Sets:  Gently Falling, Friendly Phrases
Card Stock:  crumb cake, pool party, naturals white, spice cake dsp
Stamp Pads:  crumb cake, cajun craze, more mustard, early espresso
Other:  dimensionals, whisper white baker's twine.

Mini Monday - Growing Green

You have to look closely to find the Holiday Mini item in this card.  See it yet?  It's the small piece of designer paper behind the ribbon.  I really like the Spice Cake Designer Paper!!  We'll be using it for the Autumn Collage in next week's workshop.

To color in the leaves, I used an aquapainter and pool party ink refill.  I simply put a drop of ink into the lid of the stamp pad, squeezed water to the brush tip, picked up the ink and painted.  To make a few leaves a little darker, I went back over them with a light second coat after they had dried the first time.

CASEd from here.

Stamp Sets:  Thank You Kindly, Growing Green
Card Stock:  early espresso, pool party, naturals white, spice cake dsp, neutrals dsp.
Stamp Pads:  black staz-on, pool party reinker
Other:  aquapainter, dotted scallop ribbon punch, early espresso 1/4" grosgrain ribbon.

Seasonal Saturday - Wicked Cool

It seems like summer abruptly ended one day and fall began.  No transition.  No Indian Summer.  It definitely looks and feels like it's time to start fall and halloween cards.

I CASEd this card from splitcoast.  For some reason, the old olive bugged me so I decided to switch it to black.  And I like the original better.  I thought I was making a change for the better and it turned out to not be as good.  You win some, you lose some.

Stamp Set:  Wicked Cool
Card Stock:  basic black, rich razzleberry, pumpkin pie, whisper white
Stamp Pads:  pumpkin pie, rich razzleberry
Other:  pumpkin pie 1-1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon (retired), dimensionals, spider web ef, big shot, 2-3/8" scallop circle punch, 1-3/4" circle punch, circle die.

Flashback Friday - Because I Care

Because I Care is my favorite stamp set from last year's catalog.  For this card, I colored the hydrangea with markers.  I stamped it twice; once on the top note piece and again on scrap white card stock.  I trimmed one set out, highlighted it a little with crystal effects and popped it up over the main image.  I wish the crystal effects showed in the photo - it is such a pretty card!

The designer paper is from the last year's hostess stack, but you can still get designer paper in this color (2010-2012 Designer Stack).

CASEd from here.
Stamp Set:  Because I Care
Card Stock:  early espresso, pear pizzazz, whisper white, blushing bride dsp
Stamp Pad:  early espresso
Other:  blushing bride & pear pizzazz markers, crystal effects, dimensionals, early espresso 5/8" satin ribbon, top note die, big shot.

Whatever Wednesday - Array of Sunshine

Remember - Whatever Wednesday features "whatever recently caught my eye".  It's kind of ironic that the stamp set Array of Sunshine caught my eye and I had a difficult time getting a good photo because we've had NO sunshine for days.  Oh well - the card is still very pretty.

I stamped the melon mambo flower 3 times on scrap whisper white card stock.  I cut a different layer out from each stamped image and layered them with dimensionals.  I stamped the wisteria wonder flower twice and did the same thing.  After cutting the leaves from the little leaves sizzlet, I embossed them with the square lattice embossing folder.  The stamp set and designer paper are both hostess items.

The original creator is Vicki Burdick and she is phenomenal!  I found this creation here.

Stamp Sets:  Array of Sunshine, Word Play
Card Stock:  concord crush, wisteria wonder, whisper white, lucky limeade, cheerful treat dsp
Stamp Pads:  melon mambo, wisteria wonder, black stazon
Other:  concord crush poly stitched ribbon, dimensionals (lots of them!), pearl, retired SU subtles buttons, white bakers twine, glue dots, little leaves sizzlet, square lattic ef, big shot.

Ten Minute Tuesday - Bring on the Cake

When you have a big bow made with this beautiful ribbon, your card doesn't need much else.  I'm using up some retired Riding Hood Red 1-1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon, but it is still available in several other colors.

CASEd from here.
Stamp Set:  Bring on the Cake
Card Stock:  riding hood red, very vanilla
Stamp Pad:  early espresso
Other:  riding hood red 1-1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon, silver pearls (non SU)

Seasonal Saturday - Sweet Scoops

I can't believe this is the last official weekend of summer already!  You can bet I'm wearing my white shorts and sandals today since I can't wear them after Monday.  ☺

The extreme heat these past few days inspired me to pull out another retired stamp set:  Sweet Scoops.  If you don't have this stamp set, you can still make really cute ice cream cones with the Pennant Parade and Create a Cupcake stamp sets and punches.

CASEd from here.

Stamp Set:  Sweet Scoops
Card Stock:  crumb cake, regal rose, chocolate chip, whisper white, island oasis dsp (retired - substitute brights designer stack)
Stamp Pads:  chocolate chip, regal rose, so saffron, tempting turquoise.
Other:  chocolate chip 3/8" taffeta ribbon, dimensionals.

Flashback Friday - On a Pedestal

Someone has offered to adopt this retired stamp set into their collection.  There are a few more cards I would like to make with it before it goes; this was one of them.
CASEd from here.

Tip:  Sometimes I think the embossing folders (the square lattice particularly) "shrink" my card stock.  The problem is usually in length.  I have begun cutting my card stock 1/8" longer than I need it and it has helped.  Rarely do I need to trim it down, which isn't a problem anyway.

Another tip:  Do you every have problems with the layers coming apart when one is dry embossed?  Instead of my tape runner (snail adhesive), I've been using the Tombow Multipurpose Liguid Glue from the SU! catalog on the embossed layer.  Problem solved!

Stamp Set:  On a Pedestal
Card Stock:  chocolate chip, whisper white, pretty in pink, so saffron, bashful blue, nursery suite dsp
Stamp Pads:  basful blue, chocolate chip
Other:  pretty in pink, so saffron & chocolate chip markers, square lattice ef, big shot, scallop edge punch, mat pack, paper piercer, glue, dimensionals, so saffron 1/2 striped grosgrain ribbon.
