Word Play Graduation Card

Since Stampin' Up! doesn't currently have a stamp set designed specifically for gradutions, I decided to work with the Word Play stamp set.  I think this is a great sentiment for graduates.  I made this card Thursday evening.  Friday morning, I found out that this stamp set is one that is 30% off in May.  Great timing!  Expect to see more "Word Play" cards at the May Stamp-a-Stack.

This card is nothing like I had envisioned when I started.  I can't say that I like it, but it's too good for the trash bin.  Maybe it needs more circles (love the inlaid embossing!).  It would be fun to make it in school colors.
Stamp Set:  Word Play
Card Stock:  whisper white, basic black, real red, basic gray
Stamp Pads:  real red, basic gray
Other:  dimensionals, silver brads, paper piercer & mat pack (for brad placement), square lattice embossing folder, big shot, 1-1/4" and 1" circle punches.

Easter Chicks

Although I had sent an Easter card to their family, this year I wanted to send a separate card to each of my grandchildren.  This is what I made for them.  They were fun and quick to make.  Aren't they so cute?!

 CASEd from here.
Stamp Set:  Well Scripted (retired)
Card Stock:  daffodil delight, pumpkin pie, whisper white, pink pirouette, basic black.
Stamp Pads:  daffodil delight, pretty in pink
Other:  pumpkin pie & pretty in pink 3/8" taffeta ribbon, tombow glue, white gel pen, scallop circle bigz die, big shot, circle nestabilities, dimensionals, glue dot, white gel pen, stampin' pastels (chalk), sponge dauber.
Punches:  5-Petal Flower (cut of 3 petals for feet and 2 for head feathers), sponges, 3/4" circle (for white of eyes and eyelids - cut in 1/2), 1/2" circle (for black of eyes).

More chicks:  We spent most of Good Friday and Saturday in the car.  When we take road trips, Jeff does all of the driving.  I had a couple of books downloaded to my kindle, but I don't like to read in the car.  So to keep my hands busy, I took supplies to make these little chicks.  Don't look too closely - if something is crooked or glue is showing, I blame it on the constant rain and/or bumpy roads.  :0)

The second photo shows their backsides and how I sandwiched Dove Chocolate in the middle.  I made 39 of these to pass out at church Sunday.

Lattice Cross Easter Card

I'm sorry I've been an absent blogger for a few days.  We took a quick road trip to pick our son up.  He completed his internship in Washington DC.  It so great to have him home for awhile!

This is the other Easter card that I made to send out to family and friends.  I was definitely completing them last minute (just mailed them Thursday).

To make the cross, I used the Bigz Lattice Die to cut a die in soft suede card stock.  When you turn the die on a diagonal (right side of picture), you can make out the cross shape a little better.
I crudely cut off unwanted pieces from one side (left side of photo), then the other (middle).  This made it easier to see where I needed to trim without accidentally cutting off too much.  I then cut off the rest of the unwanted pieces, revealing the cross.  If you need more details, here's a video on the DoStamping blog.
My card was CASEd from Artfelt Impressions blog.

Stamp Sets:  Teeny Tiny Wishes, Great Friend, God's Blessings
Card Stock:  soft suede, so saffron, very vanilla, wild wasabi
Stamp Pads:  soft suede, wild wasabi, so saffron
Other:  Bigz Lattice die, nestibilities, leaf sizzlet, big shot, dimensionals, glue dots, very vanilla 1/8" taffeta ribbon, bitty punch pack, rhinestone, sponge.

Baja Breeze Easter Blossoms

I am running late with my Easter Cards this year.  Here is one that I finished and mailed a couple of days ago to the out-of-towners.  The only reason it specifically went to long distance friends is that it was the only card I had finished and those cards needed to be in the mail sooner.  The rest will go out today.

Anyway, I really do like this card.  The designer paper is from the Springtime Vintage designer pack.  We had used 2 packs at my March Stamp-A-Stack.  The "blue" pieces wouldn't work for the SAS card, so I had leftovers.  Ok with me - I love the pattern!

CASEd from here.

Stamp Sets:  Easter Blossoms, God's Blessings
Card Stock:  baja breeze, very vanilla, springtime vintage dsp
Stamp Pads:  basic black, not quite navy, baja breeze
Other:  baja breeze, certainly celery & pretty in pink markers, baja breeze 1/2 seam binding ribbon, crochet lace trim - chantilly, antigue brad, glue dots, dimensionals.

Sweet & Sour Birthday Owl

Saturday was a special friend's birthday.  And to help this friend bond with her newly acquired owl punch, I had to make an owl birthday card.  Here it is.  BTW, she loves it!  Mission accomplished.  ☺

To make the balloons, I used the 3/4" x 15/16" oval punch (120908, $10.95).  It is not in the catalog but carried over from the Holiday Mini Catalog and is available to order.  I then used a scrap of card stock to punch out a foot from the owl punch - I adhered it to the back of the oval  to look like the part of the balloon below where you tie the knot.

Did you notice that my owl has wings?  I punched a 1-3/4 scallop circle.  Cut it in 1/2 - one for each wing.  That was too big, so I cut off one row of scallops from each 1/2.  So each wing has 5 scallops.

CASEd from kbpapercrafts.

Nature Walk Easter

We used the Nature Walk stamp set for one of the cards at the Stamp-a-Stack last weekend.  It's a beautiful "botanical" stamp set that is only available in the Occasions Mini Catalog through April 30.  The card was popular and since several people ordered the stamp set, I decided toshow another card with it.

I thought this was an unusual Easter card, yet pretty, when I saw it here on Chic'n Scratch.

Thank You Beary Much

Today is my granddaughter's birthday party at Build-a-Bear Workshop.  You may recall this invitation that I designed for her.  I made a Thank You card sample last night and she loves it.  So I cut and stamped twelve more for her and her mommy to put together after the party.

I stamped the bear for the invitations, but for this card, I used the BAB dies and some retired designer paper.  It's kind of like playing with paper dolls.  I think they'll have fun working on them.

Happy Birthday, Emma!!

Today is my granddaugther's 8th birthday.  She's pretty excited about her new pink, light-up twinkle toes!

Emma has always loved giraffes and points it out anytime she sees one.  So I pulled out the retired Wild About You stamp set to make her card.

This is a closer view of the inlaid embossing technique.  I simply punched circles from card stock and adhered them to the white card stock and ran it though the big shot with the square lattice embossing folder.  It looks like a textured piece of designer card stock.  Here's another example of that technique on a Christmas card I made.

The inside:

Nature Walk and Sympathy Stamp-A-Stack Cards

These are the other two cards we made at the Stamp-A-Stack this past weekend.

For this first card, we used the "emboss resist" technique. We used Craft White ink, clear embossing powder and sponged crumb cake ink over the embossed area.  It's so much prettier in real life!

CASEd from here.
Stamp Sets:  Medallion, Thoughts and Prayers
Card Stock:  crumb cake, basic black, first edition dsp, very vanilla
Stamp Pads:  whisper white craft, crumb cake, black staz-on

We did "shadow stamping" on the second card.  We inked up Clear Block D in the crumb cake stamp pad and stuck it directly on the card stock.
